Location

Bowenpally is now a sprawling suburb of Secunderabad. Locating it on a Hyderabad map is very simple. The Hyderabad airport has a single 0927 (east–west) runway. Bowenpally is just north of this unmistakable landmark. It is also the meeting point of two national highways: NH-7 (marked as "Nizamabad Road" on the map) and NH-9 (marked as "Pune Road" on the map). In fact, Bowenpally serves as the gateway to the city from these two highways.

Sub-regions

Bowenpally has two major sub-regions, Old Bowenpally and New Bowenpally. There are some gated communities in the area, the major ones being Park View Enclave, BHEL Enclave,Ramgopal Enclave etc.

Old Bowenpally There is also a very old movie theater, Kalyani, at Old Bowenpally. Malikajuna Nagar Also Hanuman Temple with golden god inside the temple. It is very near to Begumpet Airport run-way.

New Bowenpally New Bowenpally is modern and very close to the city, although there are good colonies in both Old and New Bowenpally.

New Bowenpally has two areas, Pedda Thokatta and Chinna Thokatta. Pedda Thokatta connects to Old Bowenpally and Chinna Thokatta connects to Tarbund.

New Bowenpally connects to both NH7 highway towards Medchal and NH9 highway towards Balangar industrial area. There is an Old Airport road and a burial grounds and Mount Carmel School in this area, also called Old Bombay Highway.

Balanagar has two movie theatres, Shobana and Vimal. Recently, Shobana Theatre was converted into a shopping complex.

The traffic is high throughout the day, and many buses and other vehicles ply to Secunderabad city via New Bowenpally.

New Bowenpally has a police Station, post Office, library, hospital, electricity department, school and park all located very close to each other on the NH7 highway, towards Medchal. The Indian Air Force Academy and recruitment for both technical and non-technical trades is also located at New Bowenpally, on the way to Balanagar from Bowenpally.

New Bowenpally comes under cantonment area, along with other surrounding areas surrounding, such as Tarbund, Tirumalagiri and Alwal. The cantonment has their own administration and tax departments, including facilities such as water and construction approvals.

History

In early days, Secunderabad was a small town with three major villages, namely Tirumalagiri, Bowenpally and Alwal. The name "Bowenpally" derives from Bhuvanapalli. It is named after the King of Chalukya, Trailokya Malla Bhuvanesvara, from the 10th century. The State Archeology Department found an inscription on a pillar dating from the Chalukya times, thus confirming the name.

Bowenpally is part of the Secunderabad Cantonment area, where the British held sway for several years. The old village of Bowenpally with its people-friendly streets still exists. One among the few old structures left is an old shrine with some rough sculptures of a bull with distinct Kakatiyan design, near the Bowenpally Police Station.

The schools choice is very good like St. Andrews High School, Pallavi High School, Delhi Public School, St. Anns girls High School (Secunderabad), Satyam public school (Kompally), Shiva Sivani Public School (Kompally), Abhyasa etc.

Public transport

APSRTC runs a lots of buses that connect it to different parts of the city.26,26N,26M,26S, 26M/229, 30, 31, 226 ply from Secunderabd Station to Old-Bowenpally and other special buses such as 26/8C,26/5R etc ply during the office hours.Another bus numbered 26G plies from the station to Greenfields via Hasmathpet.

The closest MMTS Train station is at Secunderabad.

Commercial area

The second biggest vegetable market in Hyderabad, Government-owned, The Market Yard, Bowenpally is located close by. There are several shops around the main Bowenpally.
